Daily Did you Know: The Greeks called Egyptian symbols hieroglyphs (hieros + glyphe = “sacred” + “carving”) because they saw them carved into the walls of temples and other sacred places.  Because hieroglyphs have no vowels, we will never know for sure how the ancients pronounced their words
